Grassroots Rates
in collaboration with The George Tavern

£200 day rate for musicians that have played at The George Tavern.

“London’s grassroots venues are the lifeblood of independent and insurgent music communities. We admire venues like the George for supporting nascent artists and upstarts, scenes and subcultures in getting off the ground.

"In the face of the structural dismantling of London's independent music and arts topography, venues like the George are exemplary in still maintaining a productive and nourishing relationship with self-funded and financially insecure artists. It is a refuge for an arts culture that is under fire from all angles - from local authorities, national policy, major labels and international streaming services.

"But the relationship between the UK's top studios and the UK's independent music cultures is less productive and less supportive. We're well aware that the infrastructure when wanting to get from the stage to the studio seems inaccessible for many self-funded musicians. Put plainly, studio rates are prohibitively high for self-funded artists - and indeed for those on small indies that, thanks to streaming, has had its major source of income siphoned off to the major labels (and, indeed, into Spotify share- and stake-holders' pockets).

"That’s why we’re partnering with the George Tavern to redress problems of inaccessibility, and to support rising artists’ journeys from first gigs to pro recording sessions. As fans of and as collaborators with many self-funded boundary-pushing, creative, challenging and exciting musicians, we hope that the Grassroots Rates scheme opens up new opportunities for some vibrant and vital sessions in our Studio One.”
